Caroline and Ekim’s serene lavender wedding at Drôme Provençale

When Caroline and Ekim reached out, asking me to document their lavender field wedding in Drôme Provençale, I knew the photos would be some of my favourites. Love flourishes in locations that couples connect with, and that’s exactly what I witnessed for Caroline and Ekim. And I was lucky enough to join them all day, capturing their one-of-a-kind wedding day using photojournalism.

Caroline and Ekim

Caroline and Ekim are a photojournalist’s perfect couple. The two of them appreciated my ability to capture candid moments while also listening and acting upon my advice when I saw an opportunity for a shot and required their cooperation.Their day was understated, using natural foliage and lilac, green, and white subdued tones. But, their love was loud and took centre stage. Witnessing their care and adoration for each other as I photographed them in the lavender fields was the highlight of my day.

Saying I do in fields of lilac

From ceremony to reception, Carolin and Ekim’s wedding took place against the backdrop of one of the South of France’s most poetic natural gifts: lavender fields.Drôme Provençaleis a small historic village in Provence. Its rich history and charming characteristics have garnered it a reputation as one of the most beautiful villages in the county. The Domaine De Sarson estate covers fifteen hectares, encompassing lavender fields and truffiers. This, and the quiet nature of the village, make it an ideal location for a secluded wedding ceremony. And its shaded terraces and striking fountains and ponds make it the kind of place a sophisticated couple let loose and celebrate.

Following their ceremony on the I grounds of Domaine de Sarson, I whisked the newlyweds away to the lavender fields to capture a selection of intimate photographs of the two of them. As the light danced on the fields of lilac, I captured photographs of the pair reflecting on the day so far and enjoying a moment for just the two of them.Caroline’s lace dress and delicate floral headpiece were the perfect additions to their ethereal-style wedding day. I knew the couple would look at home amongst the calming colours of the lavender field. Their ease and openness made the process a joy and is something reflected through the tranquillity of their photographs. We returned to their lavender field-inspired wedding reception ready to chat with guests beneath the courtyard barn. Overlooking the pool and stone pool house, the venue was the perfect place for those seeking a quintessentially Southern France experience– which, as a French couple living in the US, Caroline and Ekim were enamoured with. Their lavender field wedding was the perfect return to home and a love letter to their heritage.

The wedding photojournalism

I accompanied Carolin, Ekim, and their guests from morning to night, allowing me to capture every part of their wedding day. From preparing inside the walls of Drôme Provençale’s charming 11th-century buildings to Caroline’s illuminated bouquet thrown beneath the shadows of the courtyard, every element of their day is documented through photojournalism. It brings me profound joy to imagine the pair, and their loved ones, returning to these photos to experience the magic of their South of France wedding day.
